A Tale of Longing & Perseverance: The Red Trouser

Today is a great day here on WhatKumquat, because it marks the day I finally put together the monochromatic ensemble of both mine and Ron Burgundy’s dreams.

Had you been inside my head at any point in the last few months, you would have been subject to several recurring thoughts. For the sake of brevity and not revealing any state secrets, I’ll keep the list brief, but it reads something like this:

I must find long red trousers

I must find long red trousers

Am I eating too many dumplings? Must google what is considered appropriate dumpling serving size for human consumption

I must find long red trousers

I wonder what Christina Aguilera is up to these days

I must find long red trousers

Who are you and what are you doing in my head?

TL;DR: I’ve been on the hunt for long red trousers for approximately an eon and a half. So when I found these c/o Asos (which has tall sizes!) I was happier than I imagine #influencers everywhere were upon discovery of Portrait Mode.

My favourite way of dressing is tonal fashion. I’m pretty sure that’s not the proper name for it, but it’s basically the cousin of the monochrome trend—although instead of dressing head to toe in, for example, one shade of blue, you break it up by incorporating some navy tones and maybe even dabbling in teal. And since my favourite colour to wear is red, these trousers seemed the opportune occasion to break out the trend on this platform of narcissism.

Pictured here: The red trousers I plan on wearing to my grave accompanied by a particularly fetching red blazer that someone made my mother for her honeymoon. I’m not joking. I’m also rapidly realizing that I don’t have nearly enough seamstress friends to make me bespoke pieces like this.

All mine can do is make margaritas. Fools.

I own a pair of burgundy boots for reasons unknown (actually I do know them, and they’re called “Spontaneity” and “Drunk Online Shopping At 2 In The Morning”), so I brought those to the mix to tie in with the scarlet red turtleneck top. Which is an oldie from H&M, and has the coolest bell sleeves this side of a flamenco dancer convention.

A perfect look for my appearance as the tomato in the upcoming off-Broadway musical Friends of the Farmer’s Market.
