If there were ever a walking, talking, Instagramming personification of the trendy French girl cliché, its name would be Jeanne Damas.
The model turned Instagram S-E-N-S-A-T-I-O-N (I threw up in my mouth a little writing that) turned fashion designer is essentially the poster child for impossibly chic Frenchwomen. Despite my misgivings about that whole stereotype, I can appreciate a good button down-espadrille situation as much as the next gal, so of course I stalk Damas’ every move via her carefully-curated-to-look-non-curated Instagram page.
Which is how I happened upon Rouje, Damas’ line of clothing. If you’ve ever harboured intense desires to twirl along the Seine clutching a baguette and waxing poetic about your lover Jean-Claude, these would be the clothes to do it in. Think: Wrap dresses, cropped flares, and romantic silky tops. Very important and very pretentious. No, seriously, who the fuck pays $55 for a plain graphic t-shirt? Who do you think you are, Kanye West?
So in light of the fact that I can’t afford so much as a single sleeve from Rouje, I’ve decided to compile some of my favourite lüks from Damas’ Instagram. For inspiration. And also because I’m hoping that by doing so I can determine which pieces I can find inexpensive dupes of at H&M. The heart wants what it wants—mine just happens to want to be able to still afford rent.
